Before you ask

Questions, answered.

Everything you want to know about Camping Freely before you sign up. Can't find what you're looking for? Just ask us.

Is this free to use? +
Yes. Explorer is completely free — no card required, no trial, no expiry. You get access to all 200+ campsites and all 56 filters immediately when you create an account. Camper is £24.99 per year and adds planning tools, the peak period calendar, unlimited trip saving, and first access to new features as they roll out.
How is this different from Pitchup or Coolcamping? +
Camping Freely is a discovery tool, not a booking platform. We don't take commissions, we don't charge campsites to list, and we don't take a percentage of your booking. We show you where to go — you contact the site directly. Every listing has been verified by a real camper, not submitted by the campsite owner.
How many sites are on the map? +
Currently 200+ verified sites across the UK and Ireland. We add new sites regularly and the map is growing. If a site is on the map it has been verified by someone who was actually there.
Is the information accurate? +
We do everything we can to keep it current. Campsite details are verified by real members and updated through community reports. That said, facilities change — always confirm directly with a campsite before you travel, especially for seasonal sites.
Does it work on my phone? +
Yes. The map is fully mobile-optimised and works in any modern browser. No app download required.
What do I actually get for free as an Explorer? +
Full access to the map, all 200+ campsites, all 56 filters, directions, site details, check-in with XP, availability reporting, and up to 10 saved trips and 10 My Stays journal entries. Most casual campers find Explorer covers everything they need.
What does Camper add that makes it worth £24.99? +
The peak period calendar so you know when sites get busy across NI, ROI and the UK. Unlimited trip saving and journal entries. Community pitch notes from other Camper members. And first access to new features as they roll out — more tools are coming to Camper members first.
Is £24.99 per year or per month? +
Per year. That works out at just over £2 a month.
Can I try before I buy? +
Explorer is free forever — that is your trial. Use it as long as you like before deciding whether Camper is worth it for you.
Can I upgrade from Explorer to Camper later? +
Yes, at any time from your account page.
What happens when my 12 months is up? +
Your Camper membership renews automatically on your renewal date. You will receive an email reminder before you are charged. You can cancel auto-renewal at any time from your account and your access continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
Can I get a refund? +
We offer a 14-day cooling off period from the date of purchase. If you are not satisfied, contact us at hello@campingfreely.com within 14 days and we will issue a full refund. After 14 days memberships are non-refundable as full access is granted immediately on purchase.
How do I cancel? +
Log in, go to My Account, and cancel from there. You will keep access until your renewal date. We do not charge cancellation fees.
Is my payment information secure? +
All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe is PCI DSS compliant and used by millions of businesses worldwide.
I own a campsite — what does Pitch Owner give me? +
A verified badge on your listing, the ability to manage your own availability calendar, update your site's facilities and filters, and access to basic site analytics showing views and check-ins. Pitch Owner includes everything in Camper.
How does verification work for Pitch Owner? +
You apply through the site, provide basic business verification, and our team reviews your application within 48 hours. Once approved you receive a payment link to activate your account. We verify ownership before activating — no campsite gets a verified badge without review.
How much does Pitch Owner cost? +
£79 per year for your first site. £20 per year for each additional site you manage.
The site says beta — what does that mean? +
Camping Freely is in active development. The core map, filters, check-in and availability features are fully live. Some features are in development and will roll out to Camper members first. Beta means we are still building, not that the product is unreliable.
I found a bug or something that doesn't look right — how do I report it? +
Use the feedback button on the map or email us at hello@campingfreely.com. We read everything and genuinely want to know.
